Employing staff:

When you employ people to work in your business there are certain obligations you must fulfil, such as  registering with the government as an employer and  deducting income tax and national insurance contributions from your employees wages for submission to the Treasury.

The Isle of Man Treasury produce a very good comprehensive guide to fulfilling your obligations as an employer which can be found here.

If you work in the construction industry and employ people on a sub-contract basis then you also have to register as a contractor with the government, you may also have to deduct tax from the payments you make to your sub-contractors but it depends on their status.
